The day is an opportunity for volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations to celebrate their efforts, to share their values, and to promote their work among their communities, non-government and government organisations.

International Volunteer Day also serves as an occasion for communities to acknowledge, celebrate and express their appreciation for the invaluable work of volunteers.

The theme for International Volunteer Day 2023 is “If Everyone Did.”

In support of Western Australian organisations and volunteers, Communities delivers the Thank A Volunteer Day Grants Program which offers grants of up to $1,000 for organisations to host events or associated activities on 5 December. This year, 72 organisations around the State were awarded funding through this program.

The State Government also provides a Thank a Volunteer Day, WA Volunteer Certificate of Recognition template on request to volunteer involving organisations (VIOs). Signed by the Minister for Volunteering, the certificate serves to acknowledge and recognise the dedication of Western Australian volunteers who provide essential support and services across our communities.
