Annual reports highlight the work for diversity in the public sector

The Public Sector Commission Annual Report 2020-21 and the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment Annual Report 2020-21 summarise the key achievements, initiatives and activities over the last financial year.

While the role of the Director of Equal Opportunity in Public Employment is independent of the Commission, we work closely to promote equal opportunity and prevent discrimination across the public sector.

This year, the Commission’s annual report features a story of an exceptional young woman who began her professional journey through the public sector Aboriginal Traineeship Program.

After completing her traineeship and gaining a Certificate III in Government, Paige was offered a job in the Western Australian public sector.

Paige’s career journey didn’t end there as she applied for a governance apprentice position for the Australian Government based in Canberra.

Out of 4,000 applicants Paige – along with approximately 400 other candidates – was chosen and recently moved to the other side of the country to start her position.

Paige says the Aboriginal Traineeship Program gave her a major head start in the workforce and the experience she gained helped her land this exciting new role.
