The awards were accepted by Executive Director Corporate Services Lara Connor at the AAGE annual gala dinner at the Sydney Hilton on 31 October.

The awards were for Best Graduate Employer and Best Graduate Development Program. They recognise outstanding examples of excellence in the graduate recruitment and development industry.

High rating responses to the AAGE's 2019 graduate survey determined the finalists, compiling the views and experiences of around 2,500 graduates after 12 months’ employment.

“Our graduate program is very important to us as a Department and our future as an innovative central agency providing leadership across key areas for the Government”, Director General Jodi Cant said.

“I am extremely proud of what we have achieved with this program, and equally proud of the way our graduates have responded to their opportunities.”

Since 2011, the program has introduced 140 young university graduates with diverse qualifications into the Western Australian public sector. Of these, 63 are still working with the Department.

Graduates spend a year experiencing different businesses within the Department on four-month rotations working with a documented workplan with clear objectives. Graduates are supported by management, co-workers and a graduate consultant to develop leadership and business skills, and participate in a core training program.
