Easing of COVID-19 public health measures in correctional facilities

From Friday, 10 June 2022, entrants to WA correctional facilities will no longer be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

This is in line with the Government’s phasing out of public health measures in the State.
The health and wellbeing of Corrective Services staff and people in the care of the Department of Justice will continue to be prioritised, and as such, other restrictions still apply.

The following conditions of entry remain in place until further notice:

  • Face coverings (surgical masks) to be worn by all persons aged 12 years and above within a Correctional Facility
  • Face coverings (surgical masks) to be worn by all prisoners/detainees for the duration of the social visit session
  • Temperature testing and COVID questioning upon arrival
  • COVID-safe personal hygiene such as hand sanitising required before entry
  • Physical contact not permitted during the visit, including welcome and parting embraces
  • Physical distancing (1.5 metre rule).

While previous restrictions to the number of visitors each prisoner or detainee can have in each visit have eased, individual sites may limit numbers as necessary.

Any person who is unwell or who has symptoms should not attend a correctional facility and should be tested for COVID-19.
