Information Paper: Licence Exemptions – Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Energy Policy WA has published an Information Paper on consumer protections for users of public electric vehicle charging stations.

A person that constructs, operates or sells electricity at a public electric vehicle charging station is currently exempt from the requirement in the Electricity Industry Act 2004 to hold a distribution or retail licence. The exemptions will expire on 30 June 2021.

Due to the absence of consumer protection concerns and developing nature of the electric vehicle industry, Energy Policy WA is proposing that the licence exemptions are extended to 30 June 2024. Further information can be found in the Information Paper below.
