Bradley Anthony Beekwilder, 54 of Butler, was charged with two counts of littering and faced another charge for not disclosing who was driving his vehicle at the time of the offences.

The littering offences took place on two occasions. The first, on 25 November 2020, a Holden utility was captured on surveillance camera at Koala Road, Pinjar, with a load of tyres and wheels in the tray of the vehicle. The waste was later found by officers from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation on the side of Koala Road, Pinjar.

On 31 March 2021, the same vehicle was caught on camera at Hopkins Road, Nowergup with part of a car body in the tray. The waste was later found by officers from the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation on the side of Serpa Road, Nowergup.

On 3 December 2021 in the Joondalup Magistrates Court, Mr Beekwilder was fined $3,750 for the two littering offences ($1,750 for each), $250 for the non-compliance offence, plus costs of $788.30.

Department of Water and Environmental Regulation Senior Manager Waste Operations, Matt Warnock said officers would continue to target offenders who dumped waste illegally.

“Even weeks after an offence, there might be a knock on the door by one of our officers carrying surveillance photos,” Mr Warnock said.

“To avoid fines and a court record, people should dispose of waste in the correct manner.”

Anyone who witnesses illegal dumping is asked to call the department’s Pollution Watch Hotline on 1300 784 782, email pollutionwatch@dwer.wa.gov.au or call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
