With the theme Every Voice Matters, NCD is an important opportunity to acknowledge the work of the almost 5000 Corrective Services staff across WA.

Directly or indirectly on a typical day, Corrective Services staff contribute to the management of around 6600 adults in custody and 5800 adults in the community as well as about 100 young people in detention and some 1000 young people in the community.

Along with staff awards and celebrations in custodial settings and community corrections officers, the day provides the opportunity for the Department to launch its newest social media platform, Instagram.

The Justice Instagram debut will feature Beyond the Wire, a project coordinated by Strategic Communications staff to capture photos of a 24-hour 'day in the life' of Corrective Services, demonstrating the diversity, passion and commitment of staff who work in a wide range of roles all around the State.

Some of the 'day in the life' images will be displayed at the video billboard at Yagan Square to highlight Corrective Services to the general public. As well, Perth landmarks including the Bell Tower will be lit-up in the National Corrections Day colours of blue and green.
