The Pay-roll Tax Assessment Amendment (Thresholds) Bill 2019 was introduced into the Legislative Assembly on 28 November 2019. The Bill increases the payroll tax exemption threshold from $850,000 to $950,000 on 1 January 2020, and then to $1 million on 1 January 2021.

This will provide payroll tax relief for small and medium sized businesses in Western Australia and will bring the WA payroll tax regime more in line with those in other jurisdictions.
