Research higher degree student grants open

News story
Round 3 of the Defence Science Centre's Research Higher Degree Student Grants has been opened by the Defence Science Centre.
Research Higher Degree Student Grant

The Western Australian Government is encouraging university students to consider how their research can contribute to the State’s defence industry.

The Research Higher Degree Student Grant program supports students working on collaborative Defence-relevant projects, and/or undertaking defence industry placements as part of their study.

Grants are available for students from DSC member universities, with a project or placement that aligns to the round three theme of ‘maritime maintenance and sustainment’ or one of the Defence Science and Technology Group’s Next Generation Technology Fund priorities.

Three categories of grant are available, based on level of study:

  • PhD - $15,000
  • Masters - $10,000
  • Honours and fourth-year engineering - $7,500

Across the first two rounds of the program, $172,500 was awarded to 13 students. You can review these projects and some of the published outcomes via the DSC outcomes page.

Previous recipients have included research into the decision making of military personnel, a study into preventing musculoskeletal injuries in Special Operations Forces, and the development of a safe and secure Cyber Range to provide real-time training for security operations centre analysts.

Applications opened on Monday 6 September 2021 and close at 4:00pm on Friday 22 October 2021.
