The WA Government is ensuring residential and small business ratepayers who are suffering financial hardship due to COVID-19 coronavirus will not be charged interest on overdue rates in 2020-21.

The maximum interest rate payable by all ratepayers has also been reduced.

This has been made possible under the Local Government Amendment (COVID-19 Response) Act 2020.

Under the Act, the Minister for Local Government can modify or suspend provisions of the Local Government Act while a State of Emergency declaration is in force and where considered necessary to deal with consequences of COVID-19 coronavirus.
