Review of the Electricity Industry (Metering) Code 2012 Life Support Equipment Provisions

The Public Utilities Office completed a review of the Electricity Industry (Metering) Code 2012 in June 2018.
Last updated:

The objective of the review was to determine whether amendments to the Electricity Industry (Metering) Code 2012 were required to better protect residents on life support equipment who are supplied with electricity through on-selling arrangements. The review also assessed residential on-selling licence exemptions in the Electricity Industry Exemption Order 2005 and the Electricity Industry (Caravan Park Operators) Exemption Order 2005, to determine if on-sellers should be required to comply with additional conditions to further protect residents who rely on life support equipment.

The review recommended a number of changes to improve the consumer protection measures for people using life support equipment in electricity on-selling arrangements. Following consideration of the review’s recommendations, the Minister for Energy implemented new provisions for on-selling arrangements that came into effect on 23 October 2018. Further information on the new provisions is available below.

Public consultation documents relating to the review, including the Final Recommendations Report provided to the Minister for Energy is available below.
