Duncraig ready for year 7 students with new facilities

Year 7 students at Duncraig Senior High School will start the new school year in state-of-the-art facilities.

  • $11.1 million expansion of Duncraig Senior High School
  • One of 29 capital works projects for the year 7 move

Year 7 students at Duncraig Senior High School will start the new school year in state-of-the-art facilities.

Officially opening the $11.1 million expansion today, Education Minister Peter Collier said the school was expecting 1,350 students next year, up from 1,040 this year.

"This major investment by the State Government means year 7 students will be learning specialist subjects in top-class facilities," Mr Collier said.

A $7.2 million building includes seven general classrooms, a visual arts classroom, performing arts studio, two learning areas and a staff study area.

In addition to the year 7 facilities, $3.9 million has been invested in a new administration building, and two new car parks and drop-off areas.

A new school entrance off Sullivan Road will alleviate traffic congestion.

The Minister said the new facilities were among 29 capital works projects, worth $229.6 million, being built as part of the State Government's move of year 7 to secondary school in 2015.

A further $1.1 million project, due to get under way in February 2015, will see the upgrade of Duncraig's student services building, staffroom, gymnasium toilets and change rooms, and new seating in the performing arts centre.
