New WorkSafe inspectors to help make workplaces safer
25/4/07
Employment Protection Minister Michelle Roberts has welcomed 16 newly-graduated WorkSafe inspectors to WA workplaces.
Mrs Roberts presented graduation certificates to the inspectors, who had completed a comprehensive 28-week Inspector Induction and Training Program.
"It was an election promise of the State Labor Government to increase the size of the inspectorate, and this has been achieved progressively over recent years," she said.
There are currently approximately 100 WorkSafe inspectors in Western Australia.
"The professionalism of WorkSafe inspectors has increased dramatically over the years, and an enormous amount of hard work is involved in getting inspectors to the stage where they are granted Inspector Authorities," Mrs Roberts said.
Inspectors undergo a rigorous induction and training program consisting of an eight-week basic induction, supervised fieldwork with a coach and completion of the Certificate IV in Government (Statutory Compliance).
"The role of an inspector is extremely important," the Minister said.
"By helping make the workplace safer, there is no doubt they are preventing much of the pain and suffering that results from workplace injury, illness or death.
"I thank all our WorkSafe inspectors for their dedication to making a real difference in WA workplaces, and wish them all well as they embark on their careers as WorkSafe inspectors."
