Funding for development at Seabird, between Lancelin & Wanneroo
24/4/97
The population of the coastal fishing, tourist and retirement town of Seabird, about halfway between Wanneroo and Lancelin, will potentially be doubled by a residential development which received funding in the 1997-98 State Budget.
Lands Minister Doug Shave said the Seabird Stage 2 project received $1.5 million in capital works funding for the development of some 75 residential lots, all within 10 minutes' walk of the coast.
The lots would be fully serviced including sewerage and underground power.
Mr Shave said the Department of Land Administration (DOLA) had been given approval to proceed with the development of the initial parcel, which was part of a overall longer-term plan for 280 residential lots, including 11 which had a storage component.
The project was part of DOLA's $9.5 million Capital Works Budget for 1997-98 and was approved under the Urban Lands Subdivision Program.
DOLA is the major provider of land administration products, services and information in the State and provides the legal, geographic and administrative base for the orderly use of land by the Western Australian community.
"The development will proceed, pending rezoning which is presently before the Shire of Gin Gin, and the resolution of native title issues," Mr Shave said.
"This total project, which has been under way for about three years, will more than double the size of the town when completed, and will be a significant boost for Seabird.
"The Budget allocation reflects the State Government's commitment to orderly regional development."
