The question to be asked in the referendum about the amalgamation of the Town and Shire of Albany is: "Should the Shire and the Town of Albany be amalgamated to form a new local government district?"

Acting Local Government Minister Kim Hames said today that he had approved the wording of the question as recommended by the Local Government Advisory Board.

He had also approved the summary of the arguments for the Yes and No cases which had been prepared by the board in consultation with the Department for Local Government and Dr Dennis Rumley, Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of WA.

Dr Hames said he had forwarded the question and the Yes/No cases to the Shire of Albany with instructions that they be advertised in local newspapers and made available to electors.
