Redevelopment of Withers on target

Housing Minister Kevin Prince today said the redevelopment of Withers was on target to be self-funding after the sale of two Bunbury apartment blocks.

"I am delighted the prices realised by tender for Parkside Mews and Kaoroo Apartments were above expectations," Mr Prince said.

"This leaves the project in excellent financial shape."

Kaoroo Apartments were purchased by South West Industrial Painters Pty Ltd and George and Ina Webber for $610,000 and Parkside Mews was sold to J R Schurmann and J J Cooper for $350,000.

Mr Prince said the Homeswest redevelopment of Withers would boost the Bunbury economy and result in a more pleasant local environment.

"Residents will soon have the highest standard of housing and many of the social problems associated with an over concentration of public housing in the area will be removed," he said.

"To make this dramatic and desirable change to the area, itself and to achieve it with the prospect of a positive financial return, is excellent news for all taxpayers."
