WA Forest Alliance accused of dealing in untruths
15/9/93
Environment Minister Kevin Minson has accused the Western Australian Forest Alliance of dealing in propaganda and untruths.
He said today it was outrageous to suggest the State Government was about to "unleash an unprecedented assault" on WA's unique jarrah forests.
"The reality is that the Government has committed itself to an unprecedented level of conservation of the jarrah forest," Mr Minson said.
He said he was surprised that it had taken the Forest Alliance five weeks to dredge over old issues and produce an entirely predictable response to last month's decision on the allowable cut from native forests.
"The fact is that no previous government has had such a level of accurate information on which to base forest management decisions as the Court Government," Mr Minson said.
"The Forest Alliance's claims are gross distortions and show a blatant disregard for the facts.
"It is obvious the Alliance is guilty of the very charge it has levelled against the Government."
