A major water supply pipeline from Australind to Brunswick is under construction as part of a long-term plan to integrate water supply schemes in the Shire of Harvey.
Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths said the 14km Brunswick pipeline would link the Milligan Street tanks in Australind to the Brunswick Water Supply Scheme.
The scheme supplies the South-West communities of Brunswick, Roelands and Burekup.
"The pipeline project will provide the Brunswick scheme with a new highly reliable water source based on a sustainable groundwater resource," Mr Griffiths said.
"The current water source, the Beela Dam on the Brunswick River, will be decommissioned.
"The decision will benefit the Brunswick River and the adjacent environment because the Water Corporation will no longer draw water from the river to supply consumers in Brunswick."
Mr Griffiths said the existing Brunswick Water Treatment Plant would also be decommissioned.
The new $4million pipeline is being constructed along Paris Road. A new pump station near the Australind Bypass intersection would be included in the project.
After passing beneath the Australind Bypass road the pipeline is to follow Victoria Road on a straight line to the South West Highway.
It would then be constructed through parts of Brunswick townsite and connected to the existing scheme at the Brunswick Water Treatment Plant.
Property owners likely to be affected had been notified of the impending works.
Mr Griffiths said the pipeline was a major commitment by the State Government to supply high quality water to South-West communities.
The project, due for completion in May, is designed to meet Brunswick's water supply requirements to the year 2020.
"It follows the recent completion of a $5million pipeline to deliver water from Stirling Dam to the coastal communities of Binningup and Myalup," the Minister said.
