WA's top teachers rewarded

Some of Western Australia's best teachers and lecturers have been rewarded for their outstanding contribution to education and will now vie for the honour of winning the $25,000 Premier's Teacher of the Year Award 2005.
Education and Training Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich today announced the 60 finalists in the first round of this year's competition who have each won $1,000.
Ms Ravlich congratulated the 50 public school teachers and 10 TAFEWA lecturers for their commitment to education and training in WA.
"The award, which is being run over two rounds, was introduced last year to recognise and reward the outstanding contributions made by public school teachers and TAFEWA lecturers," the Minister said.
"The teachers and lecturers have been nominated for achievements as diverse as establishing a school farm through to improving education for students with physical and intellectual disabilities."
An overall winner will be selected from the finalists in three categories primary school teachers, secondary school teachers and TAFEWA lecturers.
The Premier's Teacher of the Year for 2005 will be selected from one of those three finalists.
Nominations for round two close at 5pm Friday, September 23.
Details of how to nominate a teacher or a lecturer have been sent to all public schools and TAFEWA colleges.
