Youth facilities funding for Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community

The Bidyadanga community and particularly its children and young people are set to benefit from a $25,000 grant under the Youth Spaces and Facilities Fund.
Community Development and Youth Minister Sheila McHale said today she had approved the funding to the Bidyadanga Aboriginal Community La Grange Inc as part of the Gallop Government's ongoing commitment to young people in remote areas.
The Youth Spaces and Facilities Fund (YSFF) helps young people participate more fully in community life through access to safe and secure community spaces.
The community intends to use the funding to buy a range of movable equipment including a computer, basketball equipment, juke box, game boards, pool tables and table tennis, which will be used in the temporary youth centre before transfer to a permanent building expected to be completed in the future.
Kimberley MLA Carol Martin welcomed the funding as a concrete and direct way to help improve the availability of community facilities in regional and remote areas.
"Promoting participation of young people in more cultural, recreational and community activities is good for them, their families and overall community spirit," Ms Martin said.
"Bidyadanga is one of many regional and remote communities benefiting from partnerships involving State and local governments, businesses and young people.
"Anything that provides new opportunities for young people, that encourages them to get involved and to try something new ultimately helps all of us in the community."
