Michelle Andrews started as Director General of the department on 31 May 2021.
Michelle was previously Director General of the Department of Communities and has extensive public sector leadership experience with the Department of Mines and Petroleum, State Development departments and the Office of the Environmental Protection Authority.
She led the Policy and Reform Division in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet and was Secretary to the State Government’s independent Service Priority Review that delivered a wide-ranging blueprint for reform of the public sector.
Michelle is an environmental scientist with 30 years’ experience in public service and has also worked as a senior policy advisor for several State Government Ministers. She has a Bachelor of Environmental Science and has served as Deputy Chair of the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia and on the boards of the Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute and the Institute of Public Administration Australia.
