How do I enter Western Australia?
The controlled border arrangement permits for safe travel into WA subject to conditions, depending on where people are travelling from. More information is available on the Controlled border page.
All travellers into WA need to complete a mandatory G2G PASS registration and declaration prior to entry. G2G PASS is an online, mobile application that allows you to register for travel prior to entering WA. The G2G PASS process will require you to declare where you have been in the 14 days before entry into WA, whether you have any COVID symptoms, and whether you have knowingly had contact with people from “low risk” jurisdictions or “medium risk” jurisdictions.
What happens after I submit my G2G PASS?
When your registration is processed, you will receive your G2G PASS via email, stipulating any terms and conditions that apply, depending on where you have been for the 14 days before entry into WA. These may include the requirement to quarantine and undergo health checks.
At your point of entry, WA Police will ask to scan your G2G PASS. To help make your journey easier, you should carry a physical copy of your G2G PASS or download the G2G PASS mobile application where a digital copy of the pass is stored.
Every time you enter WA, you are required to submit a new application to ensure authorities have up-to-date information about your health and where you’re travelling from.
How do I apply for a G2G PASS?
G2G PASS registrations and declarations are completed and submitted online.
You should consider details about travel and quarantine prior to completing your registration and read the information provided to determine which reason for travel applies to you.
- Click on the link to G2G PASS — select WA.
- Read the declaration and tick the box if you consent to the collection and use of the information you enter.
- Enter your details — including either your passport number, driver’s licence or Medicare number.
- If you are travelling with children, you can click on (+) at the bottom of the page to add their details. Children under the age of 18 only need an individual G2G PASS if they are travelling unaccompanied.
- Select your reason for travel. Depending on what you select, you may be asked to answer questions relating to your travel and provide further details. Please give as many details here as possible, including the name(s) and/or G2G reference numbers of any accompanying travellers.
- You must declare that you do not have COVID-19 symptoms. Providing false or misleading information may constitute an offence punishable by a fine or imprisonment. Read the declaration carefully and if you are able to make the declaration, tick the checkbox.
- You will then need to make a declaration regarding the information you have provided. You need to enter a password to create your G2G account. Then press ‘submit application’.
- You will receive an email requesting you to verify your email address. If you have not received an email within 24 hours, please check your junk mail or check that you have submitted your registration correctly.
- You will be sent an email advising you of the outcome, followed by a separate email with your unique QR code, confirming registration of your travel. You can download this, ready to show authorities when you enter WA.
How long will my registration take to process?
It is anticipated travellers from “very low risk” jurisdictions will receive a response quickly. All efforts are made to process other travellers within 6 business days.
I registered for a G2G PASS and haven’t had a response.
If you have not had a response, please make sure you have verified your email address and created your account. You need to do this to be able to submit your registration correctly. If you have not received a verification request, please check your junk mail. You are also advised to read all the individual steps involved in the registration process to make sure you submitted successfully. In addition, technical support is available on the G2G PASS website. If your travel is imminent, you can contact 13 COVID for advice.
Will I be able to enter WA if I have COVID symptoms?
No, you must not enter WA if you have symptoms or if you have been notified that you are a close contact of somebody with COVID-19. Further, you must not travel if you are waiting for a COVID test result, or if you have not received a medical certificate clearing you of COVID after a positive test result.
In these instances, a G2G PASS will not be issued and you cannot travel to WA.
Are there different arrangements in place for industry groups, such as maritime workers, oil rig crews, flight crews and/or freight & logistics workers?
Workers in such specialised areas also need a G2G PASS to enter WA. They will be subject to specified arrangements that will be outlined in their G2G PASS.
My child is travelling unaccompanied. Does he/she need to register their travel through G2G PASS?
Yes. All unaccompanied children are required to register their travel through G2G PASS because they may be subject to a Direction for self-quarantine from WA Police if they are entering the state.
I want to check on how my registration is progressing. How do I do this?
If you have created an account with G2G PASS, you can access your registration by logging into your personal dashboard. You can view your account details or view the status of your registration.
I submitted my G2G PASS registration but have more information I’d like to add. How do I do this?
Once your registration has been submitted, you can log into your personal dashboard, and change:
- your date of birth
- next of kin
- add accompanying travellers/children
- change your flight details.
However, if you need to change your nominated self-quarantine address, you will need to delete your existing registration and make a new one with correct details.
What if my circumstances change after I receive my G2G PASS?
You must update any changes through your G2G account, such as any travel within (or known contact with people from) “low risk” or “medium risk” jurisdictions or other countries, or the onset of any COVID symptoms before you enter WA. Further, you will be prompted by email to update your details 7 days prior to travel, and then again 48 hours prior to travel. It is an offence not to declare any changes.
I am travelling with my partner and children. Can I just fill out one G2G PASS registration and put all our names on it?
No. All adults are required to register their travel with their own individual email address.
Children under the age of 18 are not required to register their travel through G2G PASS unless unaccompanied, but you can add them to your registration to assist WA Police when you arrive in WA.
Please note: the terms and conditions that will apply to the approval for entry will include the requirement for the parents to ensure all children abide by any terms and conditions. Any child over the age of 10 may be subject to an individual Quarantine Direction from WA Police if they are entering the state.
Couples and family members travelling together are also advised to add details of accompanying travellers into the free text box of each registration.
How much does it cost?
The G2G PASS is free. You will not be charged to use the app or register your travel.
In the unlikely event that a website or an email suggests you pay a fee, please report this fraudulent activity to WA Police on 131 444.
What happens with the information from my G2G PASS registration?
The use of the G2G app requires the provision of personal information about you.
By proceeding, you are consenting to the collection, use and disclosure of your personal information for the purposes of assessing your travel registration, including an assessment of whether that travel is permitted pursuant to any travel restrictions imposed in relation to the State of Western Australia by WA Police. The travel restrictions that are in effect in WA include restrictions imposed under the Emergency Management Act 2005 (WA). The information may also be collected, used and disclosed for the purpose of assisting the State Emergency Coordinator and the Chief Health Officer in the exercise of their powers, and performance of their functions, under the Emergency Management Act 2005 (WA) and the Public Health Act 2016 (WA) respectively in relation to the novel coronavirus COVID-19.
Your information will also be collected, used and disclosed by our service providers who are assisting with the electronic processing and management of the temporary travel permit system. These include GenVis Pty Ltd (and their technology service providers, including Amazon, Mailchimp and others) and other service providers.
If you do not wish to use the app on these terms and conditions, or you do not understand these terms and conditions, you can speak to WA Police directly regarding your proposed travel.
Will the G2G app track my travel?
No. The G2G PASS app does not have location tracking functionality and therefore cannot track your movements.
What if I don’t have phone reception when I get to the checkpoint?
It is recommended that you take a screenshot of your unique G2G PASS that is emailed to you and save it into your photos folder on your mobile device. Alternatively, you can download and print your G2G PASS and carry this with you in case you do not have access to email when you reach the checkpoint.
What if I don’t have an email address?
You must have an email account to register your travel through G2G PASS. Your email will be used as part of the verification process. If you do not have an email account, you cannot register your travel. You can establish an email account at many free internet sites.
What if I travel without registering through G2G?
Anyone planning to travel to WA must complete a G2G PASS Declaration, and will be required at the point of entry to be able to confirm that they have completed the registration and declaration process as part of their G2G PASS.
If you do not complete a G2G PASS Declaration in advance, you will need to do so on arrival. This could result in a long delay.
Registration ensures authorities have a record of all travellers entering WA, in the interests of managing and protecting the community from any potential health risks. Depending on your circumstances, you could be subject to self-quarantine or even to a Centre Direction to quarantine in a hotel for 14 days at your own expense if you cannot provide or prove your credentials.
What penalties will apply if I break the travel conditions?
WA Police have the power to enforce these restrictions and fines of up to $50,000 can be issued.
What happens if someone is caught lying in their G2G declaration?
Failure to follow lawful directions under the Emergency Management Act 2005, including those that implement the controlled border arrangements, may be enforceable by law. Penalties range from as a $1,000 infringement to up to $50,000 for individuals.
What is the difference between G2G PASS and G2G Now?
G2G PASS is mandatory for all travellers entering WA, and allows them to register their travel.
G2G Now is the next step in the process for any travellers subject to quarantine arrangements. It helps reduce the load on police resources and allows police to better protect the community by conducting remote, virtual check-ins on people in quarantine, using facial recognition and phone location data. All such travellers are strongly recommended to download the G2G Now app, using their G2G PASS account information.
