The inaugural meeting of the renewed Directors General ICT Council was held on 9 October 2015 at Dumas House.

The Council is chaired by the Government Chief Information Officer and comprises of nine Directors General from across the public sector.

The Council agreed that their focus is making recommendations and decisions for the greater good of the public sector. The Directors General will focus on transformation rather than technology and make business decisions that drive better service delivery.

Members discussed a wide range of topics including:

  • An update on the development of the WA Whole of Government ICT Strategy, including the proposed direction, vision of the future state and the move towards digital transformation.
  • A GovNext-ICT, a program to change Government ICT to a utility based consumption model.
  • Commercial cluster contracting, a new model for procuring and negotiating large scale ICT services allowing for multi-agency governance and collective commercial focus.
  • Two new whole of government compliance policies:
    • Digital Security – a uniform set of controls across government o allow for the effective management of digital security and the detection of unauthorised access or disclosure of sensitive information.
    • Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery – ensure that the likelihood of a disruption from an event is reduced, so that there is minimal impact on the operational, financial, legal, reputational and other consequences from a disruption in government services.
  • The Council has responsibility for oversight and decision making on the administration of the discretionary component of the ICT Renewal and Reform Fund.

Next meeting

A work plan is being developed and will be presented to the Directors General at their next meeting. The plan will identify work priorities and track progress against agreed initiatives. The next meeting is scheduled for 4 February 2016.
