The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) is seeking feedback from stakeholders on the discussion paper ‘Accelerating WA’s petroleum developments: Review of the State petroleum legislative framework’ in response to the recommendation from the Economics and Industry Standing Committee’s final report ‘Domestic Gas Security in a changing world – Inquiry into the WA Domestic Gas Policy’ and State Government’s commitment to strengthen the use it or lose it provisions within the petroleum legislation.

The discussion paper analyses the current petroleum titling framework and landscape, and proposes potential policy and legislative changes to strengthen the use it or lose it provisions in line with the State Government’s commitment.

The department will provide a response to each submission received on the discussion paper, which will be collectively published in a response to submissions document. Submissions will be published verbatim, with the submitter listed.

Closing date: 22 December 2025.
