Typical contributions by the Office of the Government Architect (OGA) to major projects include:
- procurement advice
- evaluation of consultants, proposals and bids
- design review and assessment
- design quality benchmarking
- business case research
- strategic planning and master planning
- negotiation of complex design issues.
METRONET is a critical infrastructure project combining major public transport investment with significant land use renewal and development opportunities.
Through the Government Architect’s membership of both the METRONET Taskforce and Station Precincts Steering Group, the OGA provides advice on the design quality of transport facilities as well as the housing options and urban design of precincts.
New Museum project
Since 2009 the OGA has been engaged in the project, making significant contributions to the development of the business case and project brief, the evaluation of bids and ongoing review of the design as it has undergone refinement during the delivery phase.
Shenton Park Hospital Redevelopment
The Shenton Park Hospital Redevelopment is a major mixed use development being delivered by LandCorp. The OGA chairs an interim SDRP review process which assesses private sector development proposals and provides advice to the Western Australian Planning Commission–the approval authority for the site.
The review process brings together multiple state and local government stakeholders and enables collaboration and effective discussion with proponent design teams.
Perth Cultural Centre Strategic Framework
The OGA has been leading a strategic planning study to identify renewal opportunities and assist government in preparing and implementing a long-term vision for the Perth Cultural Centre precinct.
The OGA began its role on the project in 2012 and assisted in the development of the project brief, evaluation of bids, ongoing review of design packages and negotiation of complex design issues during construction. The Perth Stadium is a testament to a skilled State project team that championed good design and implemented excellent design quality management processes.
