Welcome to the March TAC Update
Today the Council has launched its new website wa.gov.au/tac.
The transition to wa.gov.au/tac is a significant step towards making the Council's services more accessible to Western Australians. The new web address will make it easier for people to find the Council's website and improve the Council's visibility and accessibility. Website content has been reviewed, updated and streamlined into a user-friendly structure with a fresh new look.
The wa.gov.au platform is part of a key WA State Government strategy to consolidate all government agency websites under one domain, to streamline service delivery and make it easier for Western Australians to locate information and services online.
We encourage you to update your bookmarks and save links to the new Council website. For your convenience, a guide with links to the new location for the most frequently visited webpages is available.

Focus on Quality - Assessment in the Workplace
Assessment can occur in many environments such as the RTO's premises or in the workplace. The workplace can provide an important opportunity for learners to further develop practical skills in a real workplace environment and to demonstrate the application of the knowledge and skills acquired.
There are many different approaches to assessing in the workplace and all involve a relationship between three parties - the learner, the workplace and the RTO. Irrespective of the approach, strong learner outcomes and high quality experiences for all parties share common features including:
- strong and cooperative partnerships;
- clear roles, responsibilities, and expectations understood by all;
- effective support for learners; and
- continuous improvement.
When considering the roles, responsibilities, and expectations of all parties regarding workplace assessment, ensure that this information is clear and easily understood. Many RTOs use a training and assessment strategy or TAS to describe how the qualification is delivered and assessed.
More information on assessing in the workplace is available in the TAC FactSheet: Assessing in the Workplace and in the recording of the recent webinar Assessment in the Workplace.
New Commencement Date for Revised Standards
On the 24th of February, the Skills Ministers agreed to a new commencement date of 1 January 2025 for the revised Standards. This will enable the Standards and related regulatory requirements to be further tested with the sector to ensure it is prepared for strengthened Standards and the revised approach supports uniformly high quality training delivery as soon as possible.
Further information is available on this on the next steps for VET reform in the Skills and Workforce Ministerial Council Communique – 24 February 2023.
