We call for public comment

To enable a balanced and transparent process, we provide an opportunity to comment on proposals.

In addition to referring applications to grant or vary aquaculture licences to relevant organisations for comment, we may also seek public comment. We do this by advertising the opportunity to make a comment in several ways, including on our website.

(We do not call for public comment on Aquaculture Development Zone applications. Public comment takes place as part of a strategic assessment process carried out before the declaration of an Aquaculture Development Zone.)

Public submissions

The consultation process provides an opportunity for an affected interest group and/or person to comment on a proposal.

Submissions should include all relevant information, including supporting data, evidence or justification.

We can only make decisions on an application based on the substance and quality of information available in submissions.

Time limit on submissions

To ensure submissions are considered in the assessment process, we must receive them within 28 days of the date of notice of an application.

However, the timeframe may be different when the consultation process involves statutory processes as a result of the responsibility of a decision-making authority.

The assessment and decision-making process operates in accordance with the timeframes outlined in Administrative Guideline No. 1. However, we cannot make a decision on an application until we have received all required approvals from relevant decision-making authorities.

For this reason, the total timeframe for applications to be determined may be different for individual applications.

For aquaculture licence variations, our CEO will determine the time limit of consultation according to the extent of the variation.
