We are dedicated to transforming lives through education and training, and this is why we are helping spread awareness about preventing family and domestic violence in our communities and workplaces.
16 Days in WA is a statewide initiative running from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.
This year’s theme is Stopping Family and Domestic Violence: Play your part.
Each of us has the ability to make a change in the culture around us to prevent violence against women and their children. An estimated 305,400 (30%) of women in WA have experienced physical, emotional, or economic abuse by a partner.
Family and domestic violence contributes to gender inequality and affects women’s access to employment, community participation, and financial independence. It is the leading cause of homelessness for women and children.
People with disability may experience additional health, employment, and community impacts during periods of violence. Family and domestic violence is also linked to serious health issues and, in some cases, can be life‑threatening.
If you’re passionate about supporting others in this space, there is a range of TAFE fee free and low fee courses to help get you started. The Family and Domestic Violence Early Intervention Skill Set is a great entry point and is offered fee free at South Metropolitan TAFE and North Regional TAFE.
