The State Government is investing $3 million to expand the Career Taster Program (CTP), creating more opportunities for students to explore careers in WA’s defence industry.
The CTP provides opportunities for Year 9 students to participate in practical programs across different industries to help them make informed decisions about post-school career opportunities.
The expanded program will introduce defence industry-focused activities for students, with a particular emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields in high demand, including engineering, trades, digital and ICT, and program management.
Since launching in 2022, the CTP has helped more than 62,000 Year 9 students explore careers in priority industries including building and construction, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, tourism and hospitality, and the care sector. In 2025, the program reached more than 18,000 Year 9 students, representing over half of the State's Year 9 cohort.
