The State Government is delivering a new state-of-the-art electrical training facility at South Metropolitan TAFE's Rockingham campus, backed by a $5 million investment to support the training needs of WA's growing workforce.
The purpose-built workshop will expand access to hands-on training and help Western Australians for careers in high-demand industries, including building and construction, defence, advanced manufacturing and clean energy.
Located adjacent to the Western Trade Coast precinct, the facility will provide greater access to training opportunities closer to home for people living in Perth's southern suburbs.
Demand for skilled electricians is expected to continue rising, with workforce projections indicating WA will need around 4,200 electricians in the clean energy sector over the next five years. Electricians are also among the highest-growth occupations forecast for the defence industry, with demand projected to increase by 37 per cent by 2035.
