Detectives from the Rapid Apprehension Squad have charged a 29-year-old man following an evade incident through Perth's southern suburbs on Friday, 3 July 2026.

About 12.10am, police observed a Toyota Corolla hatchback travelling on Leach Highway near the intersection of North Lake Road, Winthrop. The driver allegedly failed to stop when directed by police, and an evade incident commenced.

Police Air Wing tracked the Toyota Corolla travelled through various suburbs including Willagee, North Lake and Murdoch. The vehicle was subsequently stopped on Gerald Street in Spearwood, and the driver was taken into custody.

It will be alleged that, during the evade incident, the accused drove in a reckless manner by:
? ramming Police vehicles
? exceeding the speed limit by over 45km/h in designated speed zones
? contravening red traffic control lights and stop signs
? driving on the wrong side of the road including dual carriageway roads
? driving on pedestrian footpaths.

The alleged driver, a 29-year-old man from Fremantle, was charged with:
• No Authority to Drive (never held)
• Assault with Intent to Prevent Arrest of a Person
• Driver Fail to Stop - property damage
• Driver of a Vehicle Failed to Comply with a Direction to Stop (circumstance of aggravation)
• Steal Motor Vehicle and Drive Recklessly
• Reckless Driving to Escape Pursuit by Police
• Endanger Life, Health or Safety of a Person
• Possession of Stolen or Unlawfully Obtained Property

He is due to appear before the Fremantle Magistrates Court on 3 July 2026.
