1,300 delegates attended the 3-day AusBiotech 2023 Life Sciences Conference in Brisbane, Queensland.

The conference, organised by Australia’s national industry body, connects the life sciences sector with investors and researchers, to foster collaboration and drive innovation.

AusBiotech is a platform for global growth of the Australian life sciences sector with biotechnology being used across medicine, agriculture and industry.

The conference involved a:

  • BioIndustry exhibition: A dedicated exhibition hall where businesses can showcase initiatives and network with other delegates.
  • Early-stage innovation forum: An opportunity for researchers from institutes, universities, hospitals and pre-Series A companies, to present their projects to a distinguished panel of industry leaders and investors.
  • AusPatnering: AusBiotech's highly popular business matching programme, facilitating thousands of 1:1 meetings across the conference week.

Led by Science Minister, Hon. Stephen Dawson, 9 businesses from Western Australia attended the conference.

The WA delegation was a sample of the 244 companies operating in Western Australia in the health and medical life sciences sector, employing around 24,000 people.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation was an exhibitor at the event. Team WA hosted an exhibition stand, showcasing the WA businesses in attendance, the broader WA life sciences industry and ways to connect with WA health.

To support this, Minister Dawson announced a second round of the successful Market Access Grant Scheme (MAGS) to help finance local health and medical life science companies. This funding will assist with covering the cost of attending national and international conferences and events which will help support business growth, access to investment and potential partnerships.
