The Western Australian Building and Construction Consultative Committee (BCCC) welcomes Russell Barnett as the new Chair.
The BCCC is an advisory committee that provides policy advice to the Minister for Industrial Relations relating to the Western Australian commercial construction industry, and was established in 2022.
Mr Barnett is a Partner at Australian Venture Consultants with over 25 years’ experience in the industry. He has previously worked with the BCCC to develop the committee’s original strategic plan and with a working group to prepare a response to government, by the BCCC, on the Master Builders Association WA Reform Package 2022.
Mr Barnett will serve a two year term and replaces Chairperson Mr Reginald Howard-Smith, who led the BCC Committee with distinction since its formation.
"I look forward to working with colleagues and friends on the BCCC to continue to formulate innovative initiatives and reforms that contribute to an increasingly safe, inclusive, productive and profitable Western Australian commercial construction industry that is an employer of first choice." Russell Barnett, Chair BCCC
The BCCC is currently focused on developing and advancing initiatives in contractual frameworks, a new approach to apprenticeships, reforming industry culture, and collaborative approaches to best practice in work, health and safety.
Additionally, work will continue to improve diversity and culture in the construction industry as well as improve worker health and safety, particularly in the areas of worker wellbeing and psychosocial safety.
