Consumers are reminded to get behind Western Australia’s food and beverage producers during Buy West Eat Best month this October.

The annual initiative encourages Western Australians to take advantage of the State’s bountiful produce and buy, eat, drink and dine local.

Celebrating 16 years this October, Buy West Eat Best is a voluntary State-wide food and beverage labelling and marketing initiative, administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD).

The program is supported by industry and championed by business, with more than 200 member businesses.

DPIRD food industry development manager Deborah Pett said Buy West Eat Best was the nation’s longest-running State-of-origin food and beverage labelling and marketing program, in Australia.

“When you see the distinctive Buy West Eat Best bite mark logo you can be assured that you are buying food that has been grown, farmed, fished, processed, prepared and served right here in WA,” Ms Pett said.

“Buy West Eat Best works with members to support and promote the buy local message, highlight the importance of seasonality and champion delicious, fresh ranges of fruits and vegetables grocery shoppers can seek out, particularly as new seasons commence.

“The program works across the supply chain – including producers, processors, retail and foodservice businesses – providing a critical conduit to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of businesses and identify provenance for consumers.”

Key events this month include member driven events and campaigns, along with the State’s biggest and most diverse showcase of WA food and beverage businesses in one central location, at Meet the Buyer.

Located at Crown Perth, Meet the Buyer is open to all WA food and beverage businesses and presented by the Buy West Eat Best program.
