National Science Week returns to Western Australia (WA) from 15-23 August 2026, inviting people of all ages to explore, discover and celebrate the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
As Australia's largest annual celebration of STEM, National Science Week provides opportunities for communities across the State to engage with science through hands-on activities, events, talks, competitions and experiences designed to inspire curiosity and learning.
This year's theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing knowledge for all, highlights the importance of making science accessible and engaging for everyone.
This theme echoes WA’s STEM skills strategy, which aims to facilitate a diverse and inclusive, industry-connected STEM education and skills talent pool in WA.
National Science Week is an Australian Government initiative delivered through Inspiring Australia. In Western Australia, activities are coordinated by the Western Australian Coordinating Committee, with support from the Australian Government, Scitech and the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
In 2026, the WA Coordinating Committee distributed $90,000 in grants to 23 organisations, helping bring science experiences to local communities and encouraging greater participation in STEM.
