About

South West Snails is a recipient of round 1 of the Community Small Grants Fund (CSGF), which aims to support community groups and businesses within Western Australia's native forest regions.

The CSGF can award up to $100,000 of funding to sustainable projects that aim to create jobs, expand and diversify the local economy, and create liveable communities through services, infrastructure, tourism and events.

Background:

South West Snails a family run small business located in the heart of the South West, and is WA's only snail farm. Utilising the rich soils and Mediterranean climate, they are able to provide the optimum conditions to produce gourmet snails for WA restaurants. Being a relatively new business, South West Snails was still in the process of setting up the infrastructure that would help their business to grow.

Approach:

South West Snails used the CSGF funding to assist in delivering a purpose-built structure to breed, grow and purge snails for Escargot production.

Outcome:

“You have nothing to lose by applying for a grant, the application form gives you a real chance to get to know your business, your clients your goals and dreams. The lessons learnt just in the application form could be a huge positive for you and your business.”

South West Snails was also happy to relay that their success will be shared by working with local businesses to complete their project, supporting the wider local community.

“We have felt fully sported throughout the process, any question big or small was happily answered."
