The Australian Government has given conditional approval to loan up to $56 million to expand EcoGraf’s Battery Anode Material Facility, a project we’ve been providing lead agency support for since 2019.

Among the first to be announced under the Australian Government’s $2 billion Critical Minerals Facility, the loan recognises WA’s strategic role in meeting global demand for battery and critical minerals products.

The EcoGraf Battery Anode Material Facility will produce high purity graphite products for use in lithium-ion batteries and advanced manufacturing, with construction expected to begin this year, subject to government approvals.

The facility will have an initial capacity of 5,000 tonnes per annum. The loan supports EcoGraf’s plans to expand production to 20,000 tonnes per annum to meet battery demand for the high growth global electric vehicle market.

EcoGraf’s plans align with the Western Australian Government’s Future Battery and Critical Minerals Industries Strategy to develop a world-leading, sustainable and value-adding battery and critical minerals sector that provides local jobs and supports economic development and diversification.

The project is also expected to create 250 construction jobs and over 125 jobs once operational.
