The State Government has appointed WeBuild as the managing contractor for the $1.8 billion new Women and Babies Hospital project.

WeBuild is a global leader in the design and construction of large infrastructure projects including hundreds of healthcare facilities, and one of Western Australia's most significant construction projects, the METRONET Airport Line.

The project will replace the century-old King Edward Memorial Hospital and expand services for women, newborns and families from across WA, and will create more than 1,400 jobs during construction.

The new Women and Babies Hospital will include inpatient facilities for gynaecology and maternity patients, a neonatology unit for newborns needing specialised care, operating theatres, a family birthing centre and outpatient clinics.

The hospital's location in the Fiona Stanley Hospital precinct ensures better access for regional women and newborns through the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

This landmark project will expand services and choice for women, newborns and families and replace services currently offered by King Edward Memorial Hospital. Estimated completion is 2029.

Construction is planned to start later this year with the building of the first multi-deck car park. A contract for this component of the project was awarded to the Georgiou Group in January 2025. Around 2,500 new car bays are planned for the precinct.

Works are also underway on temporary offsite car parks, to support workers at the hospital precinct while the new multi-deck car park is built.
