Coordinator’s Determination on AEMO’s NCESS Trigger Submission

Change of name from WEM Rules to ESM Rules

Since this web page was published, the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Rules have been renamed the Electricity System and Market (ESM) Rules, and the Electricity Industry (Wholesale Electricity Market) Regulations 2004 (WEM Regulations) have been renamed the Electricity Industry (Electricity System and Market) Regulations 2004 (ESM Regulations). The Coordinator of Energy received a submission from the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) on 12 October 2023, requesting that the Coordinator triggers a Non-Co-optimised Essential System Services (NCESS) procurement process for up to 354MW of Reliability (peak demand) Services to commence from 1 October 2025.  

The Coordinator has published a determination in accordance with section 3.11A of the Wholesale Electricity Market Rules, outlining the reasons for triggering the NCESS procurement process in this instance.
