Southern pastoralists have until the end of October to apply to be involved in a project to investigate and design long term solutions for on-station improvements to rangeland condition and livestock profitability.
The Southern Rangelands Revitalisation Pilot Project, administered by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, will bring together a group of stations to share knowledge and access expertise and training to grow their revitalisation roadmaps.
Funds are available for pastoralists to access professional expertise and services to undertake due diligence and develop a pathway to fine tune solutions to improve rangeland condition, while enhancing the productivity and profitability of livestock enterprises.
Project manager Kari-Lee Falconer said the Southern Rangelands Revitalisation Pilot Project provided a unique opportunity for station owners and managers to invest in the future sustainability of the rangelands and their business.
“This initiative enables pastoralists to explore best practice approaches to land management to improve degraded rangeland landscape and lift the livestock profitability that it generates,” she said.
“Options could include regenerating productive perennial vegetation, lifting landscape health, relieve grazing pressure and refining management of livestock productivity drivers to build resilience to climate variability.”
