A sod turning has marked the official undertaking of earthworks at the anchor tenant site of the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Hub (AMTECH) in Western Australia’s (WA) Southwest region.

Located in Picton, this important milestone is a key step towards preparing AMTECH for an anchor tenant and positions the South West as a leader in advanced manufacturing.

The WA Government has committed $55 million as part of the Made in WA program to establish an advanced manufacturing facility in Picton to support the State’s energy transition and economic diversification.

The establishment of an anchor tenant at the AMTECH precinct will accelerate further long-term benefits for the region, including new jobs and opportunities for local businesses.

As landowners, DevelopmentWA are undertaking earthworks to prepare the Picton site for the anchor tenant.

Manufacturing in the South West is already one of the region’s biggest industries, contributing close to $9.9 billion to State output in 2025 and generating more than 9 per cent of regional employment.

A request for proposal process inviting manufacturers to apply for the AMTECH anchor tenancy will open shortly.

The AMTECH anchor tenancy selection process is coordinated by the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification.
