The WA Government is strengthening the State’s skills pipeline as TAFE colleges welcome thousands of students for Term 1, 2026.
Construction of the new Collie Transition Training Centre is advancing, with the South West to benefit from the new state-of-the-art facility later this year.
Delivered by South West builder Devlyn Australia Pty Ltd, the project forms part of the WA Government’s nearly $700 million commitment to the Collie Just Transition, to support workers to move into new sustainable career pathways as the economy continues to diversify.
The new facility will complement the South Regional TAFE Collie campus and provide modern, industry‑aligned training spaces, supporting the resources and infrastructure sectors as well as high‑risk licences, machine tickets and laboratory training.
This training year also marks the first time students can access seven new fee free building and construction courses. Demand for fee free construction courses at TAFE has increased by 57% since 2024, reaching 2,300 program enrolments in 2025.
State and Commonwealth government investment in affordable training is supporting students across in‑demand industries such as advanced manufacturing, building and construction, clean energy and essential care services to gain skills that lead to quality job opportunities.
Eligible regional apprentices and trainees will also benefit from an increased Travel and Accommodation Allowance, supported through a $5.2 million joint State and Commonwealth investment under the National Skills Agreement, to cover long‑distance travel for off‑the‑job training.
