Change of name from WEM Rules to ESM Rules

Since this web page was published, the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Rules have been renamed the Electricity System and Market (ESM) Rules, and the Electricity Industry (Wholesale Electricity Market) Regulations 2004 (WEM Regulations) have been renamed the Electricity Industry (Electricity System and Market) Regulations 2004 (ESM Regulations). Changes have not been made to this web page to reflect this updated name.

The Minister for Energy has published notices in the Government Gazette to commence the new Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and related WEM Rules at 8:00am (AWST) on 1 October 2023.

The implementation of the new WEM is a major milestone in the delivery of the WA Government’s Energy Transformation Strategy.

The notices, which were published in Gazette 2023/125 on 19 September 2023, include:
