Blocks released within Canning and Perth basins.
Last updated:

To responsibly manage Western Australia’s petroleum and geothermal energy resources, the Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) periodically releases discrete areas for which industry can apply for exploration permits.

The latest geothermal energy acreage release, comprising seven discrete areas within the Canning and Perth basins, have been gazetted and are now open for bidding.

The release includes 41 blocks across two areas in the Canning Basin and 124 blocks across five areas in the Perth Basin.

In selecting the areas, the department considered constraints such as national parks and high conservation areas, prospectivity and nominations from industry.

The closing date for bids is Thursday, 9 January 2025.
