Small businesses with links to the native forest industry can apply for grants of up to $400,000.

The competitive grant is being provided though the Western Australian Government's $15 million Small Business Development and Diversification program.

Grants are being provided to help businesses remain open, and invest in job creation by diversifying or expanding into new business streams.

The program is designed to assist secondary businesses in the South West that have a reliance on the native timber industry but don't have a direct contract with the Forest Products Commission.

It is the first of 4 Industry and Community Development Programs, which are the third and final pillar of the WA Government’s $80 million Native Forestry Transition Plan.

The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI) and the South West Development Commission (SWDC) are working together to deliver these programs.

The plan supports the transition of workers, businesses and communities linked to the native forest industry, following the decision to end native forest logging from 2024.
