Introducing Betting Tax

News story:
The West Australian Government introduced the Betting Tax Assessment Bill 2018 and the Betting Tax Bill 2018 into Parliament on 10 October 2018.

The Bills were passed by the Legislative Assembly on 31 October and are expected to be considered by the Council this year.

The purpose of the Bills is to provide for the assessment and collection of tax on taxable betting revenue.

The Bills also repeal the Bookmakers Betting Levy Act 1954 and the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Tax Act 2003, and make consequential and other amendments to various acts.

The Betting Tax Assessment Act is expected to take effect on 1 January 2019, subject to the Bills being passed by the Parliament and receiving Royal Assent.
