DPIRD Fisheries Officers completed the search warrants in Perth, Lancelin and Dongara as part of a targeted operation resulting in the seizure of three vessels, fishing equipment and more than 150 Western rock lobster.

DPIRD Senior Operations Manager Mark Kleeman said the alleged illegal sale of recreationally caught rock lobster threatened the integrity of Western Australia’s commercial fishing sector and the sustainability of the fishery.

“Recreational fishing is about catching a feed for yourself and your family – and enjoying the experience along the way,” Mr Kleeman said.

“Western Australia’s commercial rock lobster fishers supply the community with sustainable, fresh and safe high‑quality product.

“It is timely to remind people to only purchase their lobster through retail outlets or from commercial fishers who are licensed to sell direct to the public.

“Anyone engaging in the black-market sale of recreationally caught rock lobster should be aware they face serious consequences, including substantial fines, the forfeiture of boats, vehicles or fishing equipment and the loss of fishing privileges.”

The rules for recreational fishing for Western rock lobster are available in the Recreational Fishing Guide 2026 and information can also be found online by searching the rules by species and location

Anyone who suspects illegal fishing activity should call FishWatch on 1800 815 507 or report the matter via the online form on Crimestoppers.<\/strong>
