Joann Wilkie appointed to lead new Department of Treasury and Finance

The Department of Treasury and Finance is pleased to announce Joann Wilkie as the new Under Treasurer, and Chair of the Western Australian Treasury Corporation commencing in the roles 4 August 2025.

Joining from NSW Treasury, Joann has served as Deputy Secretary of the Economic Strategy and Productivity Group since 2019 and brings over 20 years of experience in the Australian Public Service. She will be the first female Under Treasurer in Western Australia.

With expertise in economic, agricultural, energy, and gender policy, Joann has led significant reforms, including the Economic Blueprint and First Nations Economic Wellbeing initiatives. 

Joann has a proven ability to manage issues presented by global uncertainty, and extensive knowledge of contemporary approaches to economic management and development.

She holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Sydney, a Master of Cultural Policy from the Graduate Institute of Policy Studies, Tokyo, and a Master of Public Policy from the Australian National University.

Joann’s strategic leadership will guide the new Department of Treasury and Finance and the ongoing 2025 Public Sector Reform.

Michael Court will continue to act as Under Treasurer until Joann commences.
