The Launch graduation ceremony yesterday celebrated the achievements of participants from 18 public sector agencies, marking the end of a transformative 10 month journey that sets them up for successful careers in the WA public sector.

The development program for staff new to the WA public sector who have recently completed tertiary qualifications, cultivates a growth mindset, embedding key behaviours essential for high performance in a rapidly evolving public sector.

Throughout the year, participants strengthened their core capabilities and gained a deeper understanding of how the sector operates, its priorities and the impact they can make from the outset.

Public Sector Commissioner Sharyn O’Neill PSM congratulated the graduating class and reminded them of the importance of a leadership outlook throughout their career.

“Leadership is not confined to a title; it is a choice you make every day; it’s a mindset,” she said.

“You are our future public sector leaders – which is wonderful because now more than ever, we need our workforce to adapt, connect and work in new ways.”

Launch graduate Cait Strutt, from the Department of Training and Workforce Development, reflected on the practical and personal impact of the experience.

“This program gave me something powerful: practical tools to communicate clearly, lead with empathy, and navigate change with confidence,” she said.

“But the most powerful part of this program was all of you.

“The conversations we had – between sessions, over coffee, in the quiet moments – reminded me that leadership is collective and that inclusion isn’t a bonus, it’s a strength.”

She also praised the commitment of her fellow graduates.

“Everyone in this room has shown courage, curiosity, and commitment.

“We’ve learned to navigate complexity, to embrace growth and to support one another.

“WA’s future is in good hands.”
