2023 marks 26 years of National Science Week, the largest annual celebration of STEM in the country.
This week it kicked off in WA with an incredible launch event featuring speeches from:
• Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Science.
• Professor Peter Klinken AC, Chief Scientist of Western Australia.
• Kate Lewkowski, CEO and Co-founder of Neurotologix and 2022 Western Australia Innovator of the Year.
• Dr Shawn Price, Lead Engineer, ULUU.
The theme for 2023 National Science Week is Innovation: Powering Future Industries and is an opportunity to showcase our outstanding scientific and technological capability and the Western Australian innovators that are being recognised on the global stage.
Science and technology are highlighted as priorities in the Diversify WA economic development framework. Growth sectors, including health and medical life sciences, new energies and space industries, will be reliant on both STEM and innovation to build a technologically advanced and prosperous future and better health, social and environmental outcomes for all Western Australians.
National Science Week aligns with the State’s STEM skills strategy, Future Jobs, Future Skills: Driving STEM skills in Western Australia, helping to develop a strong STEM culture, where it is supported and celebrated by the community alongside sports, the arts and other endeavours.
National Science Week will run from 12 to 20 August with events and online activities celebrating science happening across WA throughout August.
The flagship event The Anti-conference: Innovation, Inspiration, Intelligence lets you choose your own science-based adventure and is running on 11 and 12 August.
